Update on Papa Gnome

Just to let you know dad is doing great and if he gets a goodnight sleep he can go home tomorrow. The doctor did say that since dad had this surgery he wont have to worry about having a heart attack. If you read this tonight you can call him at 904-819-5155 room 2032 bed 1........ Or you can try calling in the morning.

Little Miss Sunshine

This movie is a must see. The acting is fantastic, the story wonderful, I laughed, I cried, it's beautiful . Go See it.
"The Devil Wears Prada" also very good. Meryl Streep will win an Oscar for this one.
"Snakes on a Plane" I thought would be dumb, but actually it was fun. A couple good scares and classic lines.
Of course the summer favorite was the 2nd Pirate Movie-Love you Johnny Depp.

Vanished

Ok Em I read Vanished and you are right about the handsome guy and the ugly dog. For the most part the book is very good. To me it started off slow but then became a must read until finished book.
I think the ending was awful they could have done it alot better or just ended it in the elevator cause the ending to me was very corny.......................

Two new book reviews from Marshgnome

So I finished two more books but I don't recommend either of them! They were really dumb! The new John Saul book In the dark of the night was sooo dumb and Harlan Coben's Promise Me was long and drawn out and had a very stupid ending. So did anyone read Vanished or Beautiful Lies yet?

Hi all this report on books is on a trilogy I bought in Scotland. They are written by a Scotsman Phillip Pullman and I wanted to let you know about this series because they are making a movie about the first one of his Dark Materials Trilogy. "The Golden Compass" ( or the Scottish title "Northen Lights") The other two are called #2"The Subtle Knife" and #3"The Amber Spyglass" Nancy has read these and Emily said they were in the library at her school so I imagine you can get them from the library. I've loaned them to several friends and they have all been facinated by them Kim is next on the list.You can borrow them from her..
They are really really great I couldn't put them down and was so glad I had all three.
I guess I had better give you a brief out line here goes.
Lyra is a little girl who lives in another dimension where everyone has a special daemon attached to them these daemons love and protect their humans. Lyra's best friend disappears and Lyra and her daemon set out on a special quest to find him. She crosses paths with witches, shape changing creatures from parallel universes. She finds her parents whom she thought were dead, she finds wonderful friends and deadly enimies. Lyra overcomes these strange terrors along with Will a young boy from our world.
This is a wonderful series a mixture of adventure,myth,religion and so much more.
You will really really enjoy this remarkable series. Phillip Pullman is a great story teller .The series is as good as "The Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter" combined.

New Book Review from Marshgnome

Okay, if you don't want to read Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger, try Vanished by Karen Robards. This book was really good! The Assistant DA Sarah is at a Quik Mart one night when it gets robbed. She gets shot trying to save a little girl from the robbers but of course she lives. Anyway, seven years ago her own five year old daughter goes missing and now all the sudden she's getting these phone calls from the child. Somehow, the robbery, the phone calls and a bunch of other stuff are all related. You will never ever guess who is behind the whole business and why until the end. Of course as in Beautiful Lies there is a sexy hero named Jake plus a big ugly dog to add some humor. The ending seemed a little rushed and there were some loose ends that weren't cleared up which I didn't like but all in all the book was really good. Til next time - em

Book Review by Marshgnome

I thought since I read soooo much I would start giving you all book reviews and if you think the book sounds interesting you can go to the library and get it and then we can have blog book discussions.
So for my first book I would like to suggest Beautiful Lies -by Lisa Unger. This is one of those edge of your seat books where you can't go to bed til you find out what happens next books. Back in the day (1972) a single mother is found brutally murdered and her baby girl is missing. Present day (30 yrs. later) Ridley Jones saves a little boy from getting mushed by a truck, her picture is everywhere, next thing you know she gets a letter in the mail with a pic of a woman who looks just like her holding a toddler with a birthmark on her cheek just like Ridey's. Of course there's also a note that says "are you my daughter?" from then on there are so many twists and turns your head will spin!!! That's all I'm gonna tell y0u. Now if you decide to read the book let me know how you like it okay!!! Til next time - marshgnome

Our Trip To DollyWood from mountainwitchgnome

HI ALL, Just wanted to share our day at Dollywood. We had a great time and as you can see we all went and it's the first time doing something as a whole family. It was very very hot and the kids got me on all the rides that go round and round and a roller coaster made out of wood that Abby screamed thru the whole time but it was well worth it.
