My name means "crown", and I was the first disciple of Jesus to receive the martyr's crown. I was a deacon in the early Christian Church. The apostles had found that they needed helpers to look after the care of the widows and the poor. So they ordained seven deacons, and I am the most famous of these. God worked many miracles through me and I spoke with such wisdom and grace that many of my hearers became followers of Jesus. I am the patron saint of Bricklayers, Deacons, and Hungary.

I died in the year 249A.D. and was martyred for not renouncing my faith during thr reign of Emporer Philip. I had all my teeth knocked out after being hit in the face by a Christian persecutor. After I was threatened with fire unless I renounced my faith, I jumped into the flames voluntearily. I am considered the Patron Saint of dental diseases and is often invoked by those with toothaches. Ancient art depicts me with a golden tooth at the end of my necklace.
