Who am I?

I have been around since 1216, when Pope Honorius III officially confirmed the Order. At that time I have never had a break in unity. It is said that fledging civil governments- including the United States-have looked at me to gain something of how to structure an organization in its infancy. Nevertheless, even more important, the Order has flourished because of the clear vision that its founder left to his followers-to defend the truth in the name of the Church. It is said that some orders and congregations will lose their purpose over time. Yet, the Church will always need me as long as she herself exist, because the Church will always need preachers to proclaim and defend.
