Who Am I ?
Born in 1195, a native of Lisbon in Portugal, I was given the name of Ferdinand at Baptism. Though I was denied the grace of a martyr's death, I was a martyr of the Word, a martyr of the road, a martyr of the crowds. I was regarded as a legendary hero and striking miracles were related about me. I was considered one of the greatest preachers of all times. I was called " Hammer of the Heretics" and I am known as the "Wonder Worker" for the miracles I wrought. In 1231, exhausted and plagued with dropsy, I died at the age of thirty-six. I was canonized the following year and declared the Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII in 1946.
